JOAN'S BEAR - WHITE STEIFF WITH BUTTON & HISTORY This is Joan's bear - an adorable little white 8 inch padless Steiff with button and some history. She has original boot button eyes, tan stitched nose, mouth and claws, nice fur retention (approx. 60/65%), felt foot pads (right foot pad has some small holes but is not leaking), woodwool filled with non working squeaker. Joints all work well and she is a strong old ted. Briefly her history is that she belonged to Joan Howard Smith and her childhood belongings had been packed away in a box room in the early 1930's and this bear remained there until late 2006 when the house was cleared following Joan's move to a retirement home. Wearing a lovely littled knitted outfit and a 1920's pink Bohemian pressed glass bear on ribbon - she is truly adorable and great to have the provenance to accompany her.

GERTIE GOSSIP AND DOLLY DAYDREAM What a couple of characters - these two old charmers love nothing more than to do lunch, then take a stroll along the prom and have a good old chit chat. They are the absolute best of friends and do and go everywhere together and as you can see dress the same as well. Absolutely charming. Dolly DayDream is the smaller of the two, just 8 inches tall, padless, fully jointed, woodwool filled, tiny glass eyes, black stitched nose and mouth and the most expressive face. She has an arm injury which has been bandaged so she relies on Gertie to help her with getting dressed and general help around the house. She also appears to have some kind of metal rod "yes/no" mechanism - which still works to a point as she can move her head from side to side. Gertie is slightly taller at 9.5 inches, fully jointed, replaced pads, missing all claws on paw pads and missing one on left foot pad, again woodwool filled and I think she has a non working growler in her tummy, boot button eyes, remains of black nose and mouth stitching. Both have fur loss but are as cute as can be and are absolutely fabulous.

Pertwee is a lovely 1930's golden 16 inch tall bear. He has a very sweet personality and even hides a little secret - he is a musical bear and so popular was he in his youth for playing tunes that his music box has all but worn out but if you squeeze him in the right place he will still play a note or two for you. His fur covering is long and soft and retains approx. 80% with the main sparseness being around his squeeze box area. Clear glass eyes, black stitched nose and mouth, linen pads, three claws on paw pads and five on foot pads, fully jointed.

UNUSUAL THREE COLOUR CHILTERN DOG This is another rare item that is worthy of being on Vintage Bears Page even though strictly speaking he is a dog!! I believe he was made by Chiltern and dates to the 1930's. Standing 8.5 inches tall, head is jointed, but limbs are non jointed. His head, paws, and ankles are made in light blue mohair, the lower half of his body in vibrant red mohair and his top half in a gorgeous blue mohair. Linen card lined foot pads, no paw pads. Original glass eyes and black nose and mouth stitching with open felt mouth. Woodwool filled with non working squeaker in tummy, there is a thread on his tummy which probably had a hang tag at some point. I am thinking he may have been made as a mascot or novelty item by Chiltern, but he is unique and I have never seen one like him before.

TRIO OF STEIFF HISTORIC MINIATURES Ok, so these aren't vintage bears but they are beautiful Steiffs so well worthy of pride of place - they were purchased in the Steiff Factory Shop in Giengen approx. 10 years ago. In mint condition with all I.D. They have a blank button in ear without tag which denotes an over run and were only available from the store direct. Fully jointed and just 3.5 inches tall.

PRUDENCE - EARLY LITTLE LADY STEIFF Dear Prudence, a charming little 4 inch Steiff (well actually she's just under 4 inches), fully jointed with button in ear. The knitted outfit was made for her the day she was born and cannot be taken off. She is fully jointed and all limbs work well, the tiniest glass eyes and black stitched nose and mouth. She gets on very well with Steiffs of a similar size or indeed she has taken rather a liking to one or two of my soldier bears and is quite sociable!

MARY - VERY VERY VERY VERY RARE RED ELEPHANT WOW, I have rarely seen such a beautiful example as this - so special is Mary that she is featured on the Vintage Bears and Vintage Animals Sections. I have only seen one like her before. She is just amazing - circa 1910 she is covered in masses of vibrant short red mohair, fully jointed, button eyes, woodwool filled with card lined feet. The fur has worn away at the bottom of her trunk exposing the wiring and there is slight fading to the left legs and a little on the trunk. Wearing a lovely cream ribbon with a vintage pinback saying "Mary Had A Little Calf". I am not sure I can part with her but the promise of a good home might persuade me.

TWIPPLE - RARE TUMBLING STRUNZ Well, this is a VERY RARE Strunz tumbler not often found at all. Bless him, he no longer tumbles but he is nearly 100 years old and I don't think I could at that age either!! He is circa 1909 and approx. 11" height, quite a nice amount of fur retention, all original with felt inserts to paw pads and he has some mohair insertion to his right paw. A real sweetie pie!!! Wearing his favourite clown costume as he says it brings back many memories of when he could perform his acrobatics.

From my own personal collection - a lovely rare black American stick bear - circa 1912. He is 13 inches tall, wire jointed (which have worn through to show a little filling on his left leg and right arm), non jointed at the neck and wood wool filled. His covering is wonderful soft velvet like mohair. He has boot button eyes which are a little loose, no nose or mouth stitching. Head and ears are made in one complete panel and the back of his head is made in a slightly different fabric but matches the rest of him beautifully. Wearing a gorgeous black ribbon and original Edwardian photo pendant with a picture of two sisters on the front and their brother on the reverse.

STUNNING 1920'S GERMAN MUSICAL CLOWN BEAR/DOLL This really is an absolute rarity. All original and Circa 1920 he is a German musical squeeze box teddy/doll clown. In the most amazing condition. Celluloid head is so well moulded it almost looks like wax - no cracks or dents. 14.5" tall without hat, beautiful fur coverage in what I would called duck egg blue mohair, felt hat and boots and gorgeous pom poms. Gently squeeze his tummy and he plays a tune (I do not know the name of the tune). A must have for any collector of rare and unusual dolls/teddies.
