SQUIDGE THE TERRIER

Don't jump Squidge !!! This is one very excited little mutt - he has just discovered he can doggie paddle in the water and at the very sight of the sea he wants to dive straight in and show off his new found skills - but the water is far too rough and those waves - even the professional surfers aren't around today - not to mention how freezing it is. He is a charming 1920/30's terrier, non jointed, in lovely condition with a little fur loss on his face, and a little exposure of woodwool on two of his paws but they are not leaking. Pretty glass eyes and tan nose stitches and mouth, measures approx. 8.5 inches long and 6.25 inches tall.

WOOFUS

Woofus is a beautiful tipped dog - dating to 1930's - he retains masses of lovely soft mohair (approx. 99%) - all original with black stitched nose and mouth, painted back glass eyes, head is jointed. Beautiful tipping on his ears, tail, under tummy and front of body and front legs. Woodwool filled and I think there is a non working squeaker in his tummy. Measures approx. 9.5 inches tall and 13.5 inches long (to tip of tail). Haven't seen one like him before - he is gorgeous!

THE MOST CHARMING AND CUTE DINKY DOG

Poor little Dinky dog, here he is hiding in the christmas tree shaking with nerves - he is so worried no-one will love him and give him a home because he has lost one eye. He is totally adorable and all original including ribbon and label. In nice condition apart from his missing eye - I do have a pair of eyes very similar that he can take with him to his new home but they are smaller. He has his paws crossed that someone will want him soon.

UNUSUAL THREE COLOUR CHILTERN DOG

This is another rare item that is worthy of being on Vintage Bears Page even though strictly speaking he is a dog!! I believe he was made by Chiltern and dates to the 1930's. Standing 8.5 inches tall, head is jointed, but limbs are non jointed. His head, paws, and ankles are made in light blue mohair, the lower half of his body in vibrant red mohair and his top half in a gorgeous blue mohair. Linen card lined foot pads, no paw pads. Original glass eyes and black nose and mouth stitching with open felt mouth. Woodwool filled with non working squeaker in tummy, there is a thread on his tummy which probably had a hang tag at some point. I am thinking he may have been made as a mascot or novelty item by Chiltern, but he is unique and I have never seen one like him before.

VERY UNUSUAL CHAD VALLEY DOG WE CALL WOT NOT!

This funny character certainly brought a smile to our face when he arrived - he is absolutely adorable. Dating to the 1930's he has the red and white label on his tummy and button in his ear (celluloid is missing). Eyes are obvious replacements but really suit his personality, remains of nose stitching, head is jointed and quite floppy, wearing a very old ribbon which may be original to him. He has masses of wavy long mohair and if you look under his joints there seems to be a hint of pink in the colouring. If you bend his ears over the side of his face he is very pekingese looking so may be the ears were originally stitched to the face - but whatever he is, he really is fabulous and we are almost certain you will never see another one like him !

1950's MECHANICAL DOG - VERY FUNNY

This is just a bit of fun - dating I think to the 1950's - you wind him up and his tail spins round very very fast, he bends down on all fours and his mouth open wider - it is almost as if he is laughing. Made in wool plush with what I believe are tin eyes, nose and tongue. Wearing original ribbon with remains of label.

VINTAGE CLOTH SPANIEL DOG

This is very similar to the cloth pug dog that I recently had except he has no makers print on the material but I am sure he is from the same company. Again it is the face that is so adorable - these are handmade and the cloth was made by Arnold Print Works (USA) 1890 , the pattern was cut and mums used to make up the spaniels and filled them with whatever was available at the time. I do not know when this one was made but he is very soft filled and has a card base. This one has been quite naively sewn and has some staining but is still very nice. Ribbon and trinket has been added and is not original to him.

SPOTTY DOG!!!!!!!!!!!!

How funny is this - we think he is just adorable and what an appropriate name - he couldn't really be called anything else. We were told he was probably made by the Italian company Lenci but we have very little knowledge on this maker's toys so will leave it up to his new owner to decide or if someone can help identify him it would be much appreciated. Probably dating to the 20's or 30's, he is 17 inches long, woodwool filledand made from felt. Lovely floppy ears, missing one eye, not sure if his nose is original but definitely suits him, and he has a wonderful long sticking out pink tongue. A few moth nibbles here and there but he does not need any restoration. Wears a red collar. A very cute old dog who will definitely make you smile.
